In Stockholm’s inner archipelago on beautiful Lidingö, we find a beautiful villa remodeled and extended and designed by AOJN Interiors. The architecture breathes an international elegance where carefully selected natural materials exude a calmness and balance Stockholm’s city life on the other side. The basis is 400 mm wide plank floors in random lengths of 2 – 5 meters, which show the spectacular history of the natural material, and custom-made steps made of oak flooring material connect the floors. We have interviewed Alexandra and Jesper who are behind AOJN Interiors.
How do you work as architects?
“AO/JN is a design studio with a focus on private homes, but we also take on commercial projects such as shops and restaurants. We care about our customers and our partners in our projects and love to see a project develop from the first construction meeting to design, drawings, purchases and of course follow-up of the entire completion until handover and therefore offer broad competence in architecture, design, interior design, project management and construction management in all our projects.” – Alexandra & Jesper
Oak planks in extraordinary dimensions form the basis of the austere and minimalist interior. Planks in the Nature/Classic character were chosen to give an authentic and genuine expression. Stairs between floors are custom-made in the same oak.

The house was existing, but the body of the house was given an additional floor. The project is similar to the projects we take on where we guide the customer through all the difficult decisions during the renovation period. We immediately felt that the house had an austere and reduced aesthetic and with the new floor plan it was possible to implement many thoughts and ideas that we wanted to bring into other projects but didn’t quite feel right. This house, together with the fact that the customer felt secure for us early on, gave us the right conditions to be able to manage their personal style and combine this with ours! – Alexandra & Jesper
How did you choose the floor?
“It felt like a given right away that we would let the floors be the focus. We needed to create a warm foundation for the otherwise austere design, so a light oak plank floor was an early choice that then set the tone for other architectural and design decisions,” says Alexandra.
